Guess if you can’t beat ’em, you join ’em, right? Despite complaints of the “fake news” term, especially by the media, various outlets are still getting caught red-handed doing exactly that.
Elle Magazine is facing backlash today for posting news on their official Twitter account that Kanye West and Kim Kardashian were breaking up. All well and good except for two problems.
1. The story isn’t true. Kanye West and Kim Kardashian are not breaking up and the couple immediately condemned the Tweet.
2. The link on the Elle Magazine tweet did not lead to any story about the potential separation of the power couple, but to a voter registration site which urged the magazine’s 6.8 million followers to vote for women in politics.
The deceptive practice was immediately condemned by many saying the action gave journalists a bad name. Others labeled it as a trashy move or simple “click bait”.
Once again though, we just have to say, if you need a magazine or potential celebrity gossip to sway your November vote, you’ve got bigger issues to deal with…
Elle No, We Won’t Go! Elle No, We Won’t Go!
Well they did it. They killed Roseanne Barr. At least, the television version of the loudmouth comic. After ABC had cancelled the revival of the hit comedy sitcom “Roseanne” due to Barr’s racist Planet of the Apes humor on Twitter against Senior Barack Obama Presidential Aide Valerie Jarrett, they couldn’t leave well enough alone due to audience backlash. So the network decided to bring back the show with all of it’s central characters except one – Roseanne Barr herself. The show has been renamed the Conners and the opening episode tells us that the Roseanne character was found dead in her bed from an opioid overdose. Talk about classic comedy material!
To make matters worse, once the premiere of the Conners ended, guess who was right back on Twitter commenting on the show?!! Yup, Roseanne – screaming in all caps – I AIN’T DEAD BITCHES!
We get the feeling The Conners won’t last very long…
Actor Alec Baldwin shamed his daughter Ireland on Twitter today after she posted a provocative picture of herself on the social media site.
Not really a newsworthy story; just wanted to post the picture…
Nevermind, it’s fake news…
Twitter stock fell like a brick today a day after Facebook took it on the nose. The decline was expected after recent reports had the company purging about a million fake accounts a day. The company also reported that user growth was slowing.
Trump accused the social media company of trying to silence prominent conservatives on the platform in a tweet Thursday. The president appeared to seize on a Vice report that said the accounts of some conservatives did not show up in auto-populated search suggestions when people typed in their names. Twitter said that some recent changes to its search algorithm caused the issue, and that it was developing a solution.
Still, the financial reporting was said to have beaten expectations despite the losses…
Fly away birdy! Fly away!
What are we in, first grade???!!!
Disney has fired writer-director James Gunn from Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 after a right-wing media personality resurfaced a series of offensive tweets Gunn made, in many cases from 2008 and 2009. “The offensive attitudes and statements discovered on James’ Twitter feed are indefensible and inconsistent with our studio’s values,” Walt Disney Studios chairman Alan Horn stated. The move comes after conservative personalities resurfaced old tweets Thursday in which the filmmaker joked about controversial topics such as pedophilia and rape. Gunn was at the helm for the first two “Guardians Of The Galaxy” films.
