RIP Stan Lee. The face of Marvel Comics since its inception, Lee was a writer, editor, publisher and chairman of the Marvel brand. He worked on, co-created and co-wrote such legendary comic book characters as Spider-Man, The Incredible Hulk, The X-Men, The Fantastic Four, Daredevil, Doctor Strange, Black Panther, Thor and Iron-Man among many others. A man of great imagination and a hero to comic book geeks the world over, he passed away today at the age of 95.
The second Marvel film based on the Norse comic book character Thor was released 5 years ago today on November 8th, 2013. Thor: The Dark World starred Chris Hemsworth as the main title character, Tom Hiddleston as his evil brother Loki, Anthony Hopkins as King Odin and Natalie Portman as the earth bound love interest.
Honestly, the thought of a quality Thor movie before the first of these productions came out was that it would be a disaster; pure cheese and most likely a massive failure. Instead, Marvel Studios have actually produced three quality stand alone films for Thor to date, all of which have been pretty darn good. We look forward to another Thor appearance in the next Avengers film in May 2019.
