American History X At 20

20 years ago, on October 30th, 1998, the movie “American History X” was released in theaters. The film was about a neo-Nazi skinhead sent to prison for a violent, racist crime who attempts to go straight and reform his life after incarceration, only to see his younger brother going down the same path, which draws him back to the circles of hate in which he was once revered. Actor Edward Norton received a Best Actor nomination for his role as the reformed white supremacist, while Edward Furlong gave probably the best performance of his career as the younger brother. A powerful production that holds up today and may be more resonant now than ever before.
