So let’s play a little stream of consciousness game here…
We were trying to come up with an image to reflect both Food Day and Boss’s Day. Our first inclination was to post:
Yup, Boss Hogg from The Dukes of Hazzard. Yeah, we got the Boss part right, but the Hogg part seemed like a bit of a stretch. Some argued you can be a hog when eating and others said there’s lots of food from hogs like pork, bacon, ham, etc. etc. Don’t know. Still feels like a bit of a stretch…
So then we decided to see if there were any historical events that could correspond to today and the topic at hand. We came up with:
October 16, 1793 – 225 years ago today – Marie Antoinette was guillotined to death for her role in the French Revolution. OK, so what does that have to do with Bosses and Food? Well, before she had her head lopped off, she was Queen of France alongside King Louis XVI, so essentially she was the Boss. AND, she famously said of the peasants, “Let Them Eat Cake” – a slight at the time referencing the fact that the people had no bread while the royalty ate and drank in luxury. Of course, there’s no record Marie Antoinette actually said this although the quote is most often attributed to her majesty.
Still a stretch? Man, you people suck. OK, we’ll split the difference:
