The Wright Stuff

O Captain! My Captain!

Last night, the New York Mets and their fan base said goodbye to their All Star Captain David Wright. A fan favorite for years until injury derailed an excellent career, the third baseman had not played in two years and had to work through a vigorous rehab regime to get back to playing shape. Unfortunately, Wright came to the realization this summer that his body will just not respond. As a tribute, the Mets activated and started Wright at third base where he played alongside friend and teammate Jose Reyes one last time. Wright received the first pitch of the game from his 2 year old daughter Olivia. He played the first four innings of the game before being pulled from the game to a long standing ovation at Citi Field. Wright had one routine put out from third base on a ground ball and got to bat twice – grounding out once and drawing a walk.

The Mets would win the game over the Miami Marlins 1-0 in 13 innings.

We wish David Wright the best of luck in his retirement years.
