The movie “Running On Empty” starring Christine Lahti, Judd Hirsch and River Phoenix was released on this day, 30 years ago today: September 9th, 1988. The movie focused on a radical-60s family that is constantly on the run for their anti-government actions during the Vietnam War. The son (Phoenix) was not alive at the time of these actions, and now a teenager, has become tired of running constantly and begins to rebel against his parents. The late River Phoenix was nominated for the Best Supporting Actor Academy Award for his performance and the screenplay was nominated as well.
In the very least, all the FBI talk in the news these days seems like a good reason to recognize this quality film.
