Last night, St. Louis Cardinals baseball pitcher Daniel Poncedeleon (what a name!) pitched seven no-hit innings in his major league debut against the Cincinnati Reds. It was a dazzling start for the 26 year old right-hander. Only problems?
1) The St. Louis bullpen blew the stellar start by Poncedeleon allowing the Reds to come back in the bottom of the 9th inning to win 2-1.
2) Poncedeleon’s career has been delayed due to a scary incident where he suffered a fractured skull in May 2017. While pitching for Triple-A Memphis, Cubs prospect Victor Caratini struck Poncedeleon in the right temple with a line drive, resulting in emergency brain surgery. He missed the rest of the season and now wears a carbon fiber insert in his cap.
3) After his great start last night, the Cardinals sent Poncedeleon back down to Triple-A Memphis today!
Strike 3…you’re out!
